At the end of our Keeping Children Safe training, we asked attendees to share one or two words to describe how they feel about bringing this information into their own communities. Thanks to the wonderful young adults from The Peace Exchange who came out to the center for a tour and to learn about our violence prevention and intervention strategies. “How do we know she isn’t lying?” We hear that question often, and it’s important to address. The reality is that children rarely lie about abuse. If a child has the courage to disclose abuse to you, the most important thing you can do is believe them and get them help, starting with a call to the child abuse hotline: 1-800-25-ABUSE.
