In addition to Social Work Month and Women’s History Month, March is Child Life Month. Very few CACs have a child life team, but ChicagoCAC does! Child life specialists reduce children’s anxiety in stressful situations (such as a visit to a CAC) and increase their confidence through play, developmentally appropriate education, coping tools, empowerment, and self-expression.
Every year we’re lucky enough to be joined by bright and eager Child Life practicum students who get to learn more about their profession through placement in our non-traditional child life setting. They’re an important part of how we celebrate Child Life month at the CAC, and their creativity and joy always leads to a fun and educational project during March. This year, our child life student Emily created these awesome graphics that explain what child life specialists do at ChicagoCAC and elsewhere. Take a look and learn more about this unique profession!
