Multidisciplinary Pediatric Education and Evaluation Consortium (MPEEC)

MPEEC is a landmark partnership that ensures a coordinated response to abuse allegations of serious harms injuries (bone fractures, internal injuries, head trauma and burns) in Chicago children ages 0-36 months.  By uniting child welfare professionals, child abuse pediatric experts and law enforcement personnel these children receive comprehensive clinical assessments, treatment, and follow-up care that proves to aid in the social and criminal investigations initiated to protect and often save these children.

Seeing nearly 300 injured infants and toddlers annually the MPEEC program’s greatest contributions to the social welfare of Illinois’ children are as follows:
• The accurate and precise diagnoses by medical experts leading to appropriate interventions
• Timely and efficient resolutions to investigations
• Mandated, multidisciplinary collaborations
• Providing Second Opinions to aid in investigations that do not meet the mandated criteria but are serious child physical abuse allegations in need of an expert opinion

Partners in this effort include the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center and:
• Children’s Memorial Hospital
• University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital
• John H. Stroger, Jr.  Hospital of Cook County
• Illinois Department of Children and Family Services
• Chicago Police Department
