Governor Pat Quinn's Press Conference at CCAC

On Wednesday, June 17, Governor Pat Quinn held a press conference at the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center. Governor Quinn discussed the proposed budget cuts to social services in Illinois and urged legislators to restore funding.
There are 38 children’s advocacy centers throughout Illinois and these funds are critical to the daily operations of these CAC’s including programs for child and family support, mental health, and legal advocacy for abused children and their families.
Governor Quinn highlighted the devastating impact budget cuts will have, as child sexual abuse victims will have no access to crucial services necessary in the healing process. Beginning July 1, the proposed budget cut could mean the closure of social services throughout the State.
Additional presenters included:
• Char Rivette, CCAC Executive Director
• Erin Merryn, author and sexual abuse survivor;
• Mother of a child helped at CCAC,
• Dr. Michele Lorand, Chair, Division of Child Protective Services, John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital.
